The new type of workers ushering in the next era of productivity, creativity, and innovation; AI Natives.
This post is based on an article I wrote and shared with clients in our December newsletter. I've decided to make a few tweaks and also share it publicly here on our blog.
AI Past & Present
Yes, AI is all the rage right now. No, it’s not going to end civilization by the end of the year. There certainly is a lot in the news and around social media about AI. As prudent business advisors, we would not be doing our job if we were not trying to stay abreast of the latest developments in what is sure to be one of the largest technological shifts of our lifetimes.
This is saying a lot considering all the technical advances in the past few decades. It wasn’t long ago that folks were finally hitting the dirt roads with their spiffy Model-T's, people used phones tethered to a landline, and there were a handful of broadcast radio and television stations. Now we can stream virtually any show we want via our mobile phone as an autopilot enabled car whisks us to our destination.
The thing is, AI is not new. People have been working on aspects of AI, machine learning, computer vision, deep learning, and the like for many years. What’s new is the ease and availability of tools that bring AI technologies to the masses, use-cases that are both desirable and value-additive, and an uptake in awareness that is unprecedented. The release of Chat GPT by Open AI on November 30th, 2022, will go down as an incendiary moment in AI history.
What's Next
So where is this all going? We believe some of the most interesting, and valuable, companies utilizing AI are yet to be realized. There are countless teams working with the current set of AI tools. What they learn and build as things evolve will create new tools, processes, and technologies that future teams will build upon. The most exciting part to us is that entrepreneurs and business owners are coming of age, so to speak, into all of this. We believe these folks will be “AI Natives.”
Much like the Digital Natives who grew up not knowing a world without computers or internet connection, or the Mobile Natives who came of age interacting with their mobile devices, these new AI Natives will have the talent, skills, and ability to navigate the world with AI. They will build and create using AI in ways that we have yet to see or even imagine.
What's crucial for every business leader, and every investor, is to start identifying these AI Natives. By recognizing these folks now, we will all be able to harness they innovations they will certainly bring to the world. If you are a business leader, think about your current business and plans for the future. Who are the AI Natives on your team right now. How can they help your business utilize AI tools? If you are an investor, where are these AI Natives currently building their expertise with these tools? How can you start building relationships with them?
We are very optimistic about the future and what this new talent will bring to fruition in terms of innovation and business opportunities. This new breed of AI Native will create the future, and we will all be a part of that.
